Water Features

Water features have become increasingly popular over the past few years, particularly in housing and office developments. There are two main types of water features, the ‘organic’ type where the water remains essentially untreated so that fish and plants can live in a natural environment, and the treated type where the water is treated with biocides to prevent the growth of legionella and other microbiological contaminants.

Most water features produce aerosols and during the warmer summer months are quite likely to see the water temperature rise above 20ºC, the temperature at which legionella bacteria begins to proliferate. Elevated temperatures coupled with high winds can cause legionella contaminated water to be distributed as an aerosol over a significant area and put susceptible people at risk, if the water is left untreated and tested. Each water feature should have a risk assessment carried out as required by L8:2013 in order to assess the risk of legionella being produced in the future.

CPS Management Services Ltd are primarily involved in the installation, testing and maintenance of these features. We can supply the necessary chemicals and plant for the treatment of the circulating water. We also undertake the regular temperature monitoring and testing for legionella and other microbiological organisms particularly during the warmer summer months.
